This week, we’re highlighting volunteer opportunities categorized by time commitment. Whether you have five minutes to spare or two hours, we promise there is a volunteer opportunity suitable for you!

  • …And it took you five whole minutes to sign up to be a poll worker! Poll workers staff their local polling locations on Election Day (Nov. 5, 2024), assisting with tasks such as checking voters in and answering any questions they may have. Power to the Polls will point you in the right direction with information for helping in your local community.
  • Just an hour to spare? Sign up to attend the “ What’s At Stake with Project 2025” training on Aug. 13 at 6 - 7 pm ET. This training will briefly outline the basic principles of Project 2025 and the havoc it could wreak on our country. The rest of the training will go over how to talk to your friends and family to encourage them to vote!
  • Cause, baby, two (hours) is better than one: Sign up to phone bank on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 12:30 - 2:30 pm ET. There will be a short training for all new volunteers.

It's been another wild week on the Harris-WALZ campaign! Yes, Vice President Harris announced yesterday, to the internet’s collective joy, that her running mate choice is Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Born in Nebraska, Walz served in the Army National Guard, enlisting at the age of 17. He also pursued a teaching degree, and is a former high school social studies teacher and football coach at Mankato West High School, where he also served as the faculty advisor for the school’s first gay-straight alliance.

Walz later went on to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, winning a district that had previously leaned towards Republicans. As Minnesota’s governor, he signed a universal school meals bill into law and others to protect reproductive rights and LGBTQ+ youth.

Bonus: Walz is a certified Swiftie dad with amazing Midwestern Nice vibes. Nice!

We’re back to tackle our first Project 2025 topic: climate. An overarching theme in Project 2025 is a reduction of offices in the EPA (Project 2025, pg. 421). These cuts will greatly weaken the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency’s work toward combating climate change.

Some other proposed changes include abolishing tools such as the EPA’s “Endangerment Finding,” which is critical in curbing air pollutants, carbon dioxide, and more. Other hits include restructuring programs studying climate science, such as the U.S. Global Change Research Program and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research. '

Project 2025 would serve large corporations such as the fossil fuel industry, and the project’s contributors are laying the groundwork to create serious harm to our environment and important governmental agencies.

ICYMI, VP Harris’ first campaign video dropped and focuses on freedom (and uses fellow queen Beyoncé’s song “Freedom”). One of the key freedoms touched on is the freedom to make decisions about your own body. Kamala has been a consistent and unapologetic champion of access to abortion care and reproductive rights.

At her recent rally in Wisconsin she stated, “We trust women to make decisions for their own bodies. When Congress passes a law to restore reproductive freedoms, as president of the United States, I will sign it.” In a post-Dobbs world, this is one of the sharpest contrasts she can draw against Donald Trump. So here’s to reproductive freedoms with Kamala Harris as president, because as we know: The best people in life are free.

The U.S. Senate race in Montana sees incumbent Jon Tester (D) facing newcomer Tim Sheehy (R). Tester has been a U.S. Senator since 2006 . His challenger Sheehy is a former Navy SEAL and founded several businesses. Sheehy is strongly endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

Don’t just meet us behind the mall this August — in many states you can meet us at the voting booth too! There are a lot of primary elections happening across the country in the lead-up to November. These elections give you the opportunity to choose the candidates on your ballot come November, so you definitely don’t want to miss out!

If you live in Connecticut, Minnesota, Vermont, or Wisconsin, get in the car and head to the polls on Aug. 13!

Check on your state’s primary date and see who’s on your ballot  — don’t let this primary season slip away like a moment in time!
